The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) on Community Integration of Persons with Traumatic Brain Injury at TIRR

Training Project 4: Training in the Use of the Internet for Social Networking

Background

Loneliness and social isolation are common problems for persons with TBI. Consumers emphasize social networking as one of the most important areas of community integration affected by TBI.

Use of social networking websites has exploded over the past several years, with dozens of active networking websites, millions of users, and development of sites with unique focus. Social networking websites provide important opportunities for socialization and expansion of the size of the social network for persons with TBI. Therefore, this project will address the strong need for social networking through training in the use of the Internet and social networking websites.

Objectives

The purpose of this project is to develop and conduct training sessions for persons with TBI and their caregivers on how to use the Internet and social networking websites.
