Podcasts: Assisting Patients with Traumatic Brain Injury: A Brief Guide for Primary Care Physicians
This series of four podcast modules is designed to inform primary healthcare professionals, who are not specialists in traumatic brain injury (TBI), about the healthcare and community reintegration needs of persons with TBI. Topics covered in these modules include:
- the basics of TBI (Module 1),
- diagnostic issues and using neuropsychological reports (Module 2),
- comorbid emotional and behavioral conditions of TBI (Module 3), and
- strategies for and modifications to primary care clinical practice to effectively accommodate persons with TBI (Module 4).

My patient has a what? This podcast provides physicians with basic information about the epidemiology, pathophysiology, common sequelae, and patterns of recovery following TBI. - Module 2: Clarifying Diagnosis and Utilization of the Neuropsychological Report (mp3 file)
For a variety of reasons, patients may not always report having had a TBI to their doctor. This podcast includes information that you may find helpful when interviewing your patients to determine if they have had a TBI, how to effectively use a neuropsychological report, and when to refer your patient for a neuropsychological evaluation. - Module 3: Common Comorbid Emotional and Behavioral Disorders for Persons with TBI (mp3 file)
Patients with TBI often have troubling emotional and behavioral disorders following their injury. Cognitive and physical TBI sequelae can be challenging to deal with. This podcast offers suggestions on how to modify your clinical interactions with patients with TBI to accommodate issues including dysarthria, slowed processing, and memory difficulties.
