Some of our earlier classes included:

Members of the writing class listen to a student's work being read

Creative Writing:

Writing is a powerful tool for self expression and has been proven to be especially therapeutic. In the Creative Writing sessions, personal stories were explored through different genres of writing (poetry, fiction, non-fiction, etc.). Participants read good poems, good stories and had a chance to write and share their own.

The dance instructor and a student enjoy a laugh

Dance and Movement:

Included activities from all the expressive arts (drama, dance, music, and visual art). Participants took real life experiences and created stories to music and movement.

Dance from Within:

Created by Tina Sabuco of ARTS ALIVE!, this program encourages each participant to explore their unique and individual styles of movement through Creative Dance and Creative Drama. Participants use an array of props and costume pieces to dramatize a variety of stories (based in reality AND fantasy) accompanied by a wide variety of music compiled especially for each story. Dance from within helps each participant to think, move, breathe, play and have FUN--all at the same time!

Participants enjoying getting the beat

Drums:

This was an entry level session of drumming and rhythm.

Mosaic class members at work on their projects

Mosaics:

Students created their own stepping stones and memory jugs, and in the process learned the mosaic process, including design, creation and grouting.

An art class student concentrates on painting a still life

Painting:

Introduction to painting focused on developing new skills, but also offered the chance to learn and create through self-expression. The course investigated color, mark-making and compositional elements. Students explored ways to utilize these painting techniques to establish their own unique style.
