The car, What's on Your Mind, is greeted with cheers along the parade route

For the second time in two years the Center for Creative Expressions art classes developed, designed and entered an art car into the Orange Show's Annual Art Car Parade. This year's entry was titled as "What's on Your Mind". Students, along with the assistance of art car artist Shelley Buschur and TIRR speech therapist Jay Wehnert, worked on the car from February to May, finishing just in time for the Art Car Parade on May 12th. Given the number ten slot in a parade of 282 cars, some of the students and the artist participated by riding in the car or skating alongside it. The early model hatchback Nissan Datsun was transformed using chicken wire and caulking foam into a giant brain on wheels. Painted silver the car is decorated with personal items symbolic of the students' lives. In one area of the brain you see a skateboard, in another fashion magazines and doll clothing, still another has dancing shoes and hands with perfectly manicured nails. A menu from a local Mexican restaurant, along with plastic food items, a fiesta plate and multitudes of flowers also adorns the car. The car is complete with giant black framed glasses covering eye-lashed headlights. View a slide show of the car, the parade and the artists

The next session of classes will begin in late August or early September and any individuals living in the community who have had a traumatic brain injury are welcome to participate.
